Summary

Step through the doors of the restored Settlers Cabin into a workshop that demonstrates and displays the many different facets of basketmaking. Watch as artisans shape baskets of all shapes and sizes.

Using a variety of methods and tools, natural materials such as white oak splints, rataan, and even long pine needles from southern pine trees are crafted into functional and beautiful baskets.

Browse shelves of finished baskets and even purchase the supplies you need for making your own baskets.

History

The Homestead Baskets shop is located in a restored one room cabin that was originally constructed by early settlers in Missouri circa 1830.  Craftsmen from Homestead Heritage dismantled the long abandoned cabin and carefully restored it in 2002 to be part of the Homestead Craft Village.
