Homestead General Store is constructed from two early hand-hewn barn frames. The barn frames were originally built around 1780.
The main showroom is insulated and air conditioned. The feed and storage barn adjacent to it is finished in the style of a traditional barn and uses passive cooling with a ventilated roof system and gable-end ventilators to keep it comfortable throughout the hot central Texas summers.
